Let your child get creative with messy painting activities that don't involve a paintbrush.

If the activity is messy, you can bet your last dime your child is up for it. Using a brush for painting activities is favored by a lot of parents; but not here in my house. A paintbrush is way too neat for us. When it comes to creating masterpieces, our motto is, “The messier the better.” Here are some cool and messy brush-free painting activities for kids.

Messy Feet Painting Activity for Kids

If you don’t like cleaning, then you’d better not let your kid stick her feet in paint. Feet painting is the ultimate messy painting activity for youngsters. To do this activity, cover a large area of your kitchen floor with newspaper. Pour nontoxic, washable paint on paper plates and put a sheet of white butcher paper on the floor.

Let your child put her bare feet in the paint and walk, tiptoe and jump all over the butcher paper. Not only is this painting activity loads of fun, the cool, wet sensation of the paint on your kiddo’s feet provides a wonderful sensory experience for her.

To make cleanup a snap, keep a bucket of warm soapy water, a wash rag and two towels on the floor beside the painting area. When your munchkin is done with her masterpiece, have her stand in the bucket of water while you use the washrag to wash the paint off of her feet.

When you’ve removed all of the paint, your child can step out of the bucket onto one of the towels. Use the second towel to dry your kid's feet and ankles off. After she is all clean, gather up the paper plates and newspapers and throw them in the trash. Pour the water out of the bucket and rinse it out. Wipe any paint and water off the floor, and then toss the towels in the washing machine.

Messy Spray Bottle Painting Activity for Kids

Painting with a spray bottle is a messy job, but your child certainly won't mind doing it. To do this activity, cover the work surface with newspaper. Put some watered-down washable paint in a spray bottle. Give your child a sheet of light-colored construction paper or card stock.

Let your little one aim the nozzle of the spray bottle at the construction paper and make splashy designs. This activity is great for exercising your child’s fine motor skills. Kids don’t always have the best aim, so either put your child on some old clothes or cover her outfit with a smock.

Painting is one of those activities a youngster never gets tired of doing. While painting with a paintbrush is loads of fun, your child doesn’t need one to create the perfect masterpiece. All she needs is her feet, a few spray bottles and a love for getting messy.
